Flash-Ease is an extremely popular Nature's Sunshine product for menopausal women.  Its formula is actually fairly simple--containing only dong quai and black cohosh extract.  However, it is not a simple mixture that might be found in competitive products.  The cohosh extract is standardized--meaning that you can guarantee a set amount in each capsule of the active phytochemicals.  Also, it is made so that it releases over a 10 hour time period instead of all at once.  This is an advantage over competing products, since large amounts of black cohosh released all at once can cause headaches and/or dizziness.

Both of these ingredients are phyto-estrogens.  This means that their chemical structure is very close to the key female hormone estrogen.  Phyto-estrogens are "weak" estrogens, but when they are received by the estrogen receptors in the breasts and other areas of the body, they prevent the receptors from being able to absorb stronger, more dangerous xeno-estrogens that are prevalent in hormone-laden food and the environment.

The ability of these weak phyto-estrogens to block reception of the stronger ones is helpful due to the fact that many women suffer from a condition known as "Estrogen Overload", in which too many estrogens are in the body to be balanced by the available progesterone.  The imbalance of estrogen causes many types of female problems.  It is a good idea to keep the colon cleansed, since excess estrogens leave the body through the colon.
